My wife and I were invited to a church programme last Sunday and since it was Remembrance Sunday, we harmoniously joined the nation in singing the British national anthem “God Save The Queen”.
The second stanza, however, got my attention as if I was hearing it for the first time! It goes like this:
O Lord our God arise,
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall!
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all!
With that in mind, and if you have listened to the UK news in the last 3 years, what would you say about the way our MPs in the House of Commons have been using Brexit to play political football? Or of their putting Party-desires above the needs of the nation?
What should we, as individuals, do about the situation? As Christian, we were admonished to follow aht the Bible says in 2nd Chronicles 7:14-15 (KJV) that “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
I am not be a really politically-minded person but this is different and as a Christian, i will PRAY??. Apostle Paul says in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 “I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.”
If you feel the same way that I do, please pray and call on God that His Will be done in the coming UK election and beyond.Niyi Adeoshun
